Planned Gifts

Planned giving refers to charitable contributions that are arranged in the present and allocated at a future date. These gifts typically come in the form of bequests, trusts, or gifts of life insurance, real estate, or retirement assets.

Please contact us any time with questions about giving to Thrive at development@thrivecc.org or (708) 383-7504. We are not able to provide legal advice, but we can answer questions about planned gifts and connect you with experts in the field.

Donor-Advised Funds (DAFs)

A donor-advised fund is a giving account established at a public charity. You contribute to the fund, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants from the fund to qualified nonprofits like Thrive over time.

Benefits:

  • Immediate tax benefits while allowing flexibility in the timing of your charitable gifts.

  • Simplifies your charitable giving by centralizing your donations in one place.

  • Supports Thrive’s work when you recommend a grant—whether it's a one-time gift or recurring support.

IRA Charitable Distributions

If you're age 70½ or older, you can make a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) to Thrive—up to $100,000 annually.

Benefits:

  • Satisfies all or part of your required minimum distribution (RMD) without increasing your taxable income.

  • Offers a tax-efficient way to support Thrive’s programs.

  • Helps fund immediate needs in mental health access and crisis response.

Giving Through a Foundation

Many donors give through private or family foundations, which can provide structured, ongoing support to Thrive via grants or matching gift programs.

Benefits:

  • Leverages your foundation's giving priorities to support a community-driven mental health mission.

  • Enhances your philanthropic impact through strategic, long-term partnerships.

  • May include opportunities for visibility, involvement, and shared community goals.

Charitable Bequests

A charitable bequest is a gift specified in your will or living trust that designates a portion of your estate to Thrive Counseling Center.

Here is sample bequest language you can share with your attorney:

“I give, devise, and bequeath to Thrive Counseling Center, an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, having its principal offices in the Village of Oak Park, State of Illinois, (a specific amount or a percentage of the estate) to be used for its general purposes (you may insert an area of Thrive you wish to support).”

Benefits:

  • Easy to include and update in your estate planning documents.

  • Allows you to retain control of your assets during your lifetime.

  • Creates a lasting legacy that sustains Thrive’s mission well into the future, at no cost to you today.

Life Insurance Beneficiary

You can name Thrive Counseling Center as a full or partial beneficiary of your life insurance policy. This allows you to make a significant future gift without impacting your current financial situation.

Benefits:

  • Easy to set up by simply updating your beneficiary designation form.

  • Allows you to make a larger gift than you may be able to during your lifetime.

  • Your gift will help ensure Thrive can continue to provide life-changing mental health care for future generations.
