Our other services

24/7 Crisis Team

Crisis Support is available 24/7/365 for de-escalation of a mental health crisis and risk assessment and safety planning. A mental health crisis is an intensive behavioral, emotional, or psychiatric response, typically triggered by a precipitating event, which causes one’s usual coping strategies or problem-solving skills to be overwhelmed. The goal of crisis intervention is to ultimately stabilize the immediate situation, provide support and facilitate understanding.

Psychiatric Services

In addition to counseling services, Thrive Counseling Center also offers Medication Management. Medication Management services are provided through our Psychiatry Department and involve collaborating with a medical professional specializing in psychiatry to ensure the safe use of medication to address a diagnosed mental health disorder.

Trauma Clinic for Adults

The Trauma Clinic is a short-term intensive program for adults that consists of 3 weekly groups and 1 weekly individual session each week. The goal is to change the way traumatic memories are stored in the brain by reducing or eliminating problematic symptoms in a safe and supportive peer environment. Individual sessions will use EMDR for treatment, and the three groups leverage IFS, EMDR, and TEAMS approaches.

Suicide Prevention / Awareness

Thrive has been dedicated to making Oak Park and River Forest suicide safer communities since 2015. On average, six lives are lost to suicide in our community every year. And, based on statistics from the CDC, 4,000 people in our community have thoughts of suicide.

FAQs

I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?

Seeking help from others is a sign of strength, not weakness. It takes courage to recognize when help is needed and to reach out for support. Therapy can help identify and build on personal strengths to reduce the impact of challenges and foster growth.

What’s the difference between talking to a therapist instead of my best friend or family?

A mental health professional has specialized training and experience to help navigate difficult situations effectively. Our therapists provide a nonjudgmental, confidential space to explore emotions, gain new perspectives, and learn skills to manage challenges. Unlike personal relationships, therapy ensures a safe, professional environment where support is unbiased and focused solely on the your well-being.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

While medication can be effective for managing certain symptoms, it may not address underlying issues on its own. Combining counseling with medication allows for deeper exploration of challenges and the development of lasting skills and strengths.

How do outpatient therapy services work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Therapy is a highly personalized process designed to address the unique needs of each individual. During sessions, the therapist works collaboratively with the client to identify goals and develop a plan to achieve them. The specific approach used will depend on the challenges being faced, personal preferences, and what feels most effective for you. Sessions may involve discussing thoughts, emotions, and experiences, learning new coping strategies, or practicing skills to manage difficult situations. Clients are encouraged to actively participate by being open, honest, and engaged, as this helps create a productive and supportive environment for growth and change.

How long will I be in counseling?

The length of counseling varies depending on individual circumstances. Factors such as personal goals, commitment to the process, and the issues prompting someone to seek therapy all influence the duration needed to achieve desired outcomes.

I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?

Active participation and commitment are essential for making progress in therapy. Therapy appointments reoccur at the same time weekly, and it is important for you to be able to attend each session. You are expected to attend at least 3 sessions per month, unless otherwise agreed upon with your therapist. Engaging openly in sessions and practicing skills or strategies outside of therapy will also contribute to your success.

Will Thrive take my insurance?

Our highly trained staff accepts all Medicaid plans and most Medicare and Medicare replacement plans. Additionally, we accept many Blue Cross Blue Shield plans and other private insurance plans. Thrive is not able to accept every type of insurance plan, including Humana Gold Plus Medicare.

Thrive is pleased to offer sliding scale payment options for those who do not have insurance. Please call your insurance provider or Thrive at (708) 383-7500 ext. 204 to confirm coverage at Thrive.
